How To Prepare for Your 3D/4D Ultrasound
Seeing your baby in 3D or 4D is such a special part of pregnancy. From tiny expressions to little hands and feet by their face, every baby gives us a different peek at who they are even before they are here.
While the baby is ultimately the boss (showing up with their own plans), there are a few things you can do before your appointment to help create a clearer window for ultrasound imaging!
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
In the days leading up to your appointment, do your best to stay well hydrated. Having adequate amniotic fluid around your baby can help create a clearer window for ultrasound imaging.
You do not need to do anything extreme; just make sure you are making an effort to drink water and stay consistently hydrated before your visit!
Don’t skip your meal
You don't need to fast before your elective ultrasound. Eat normally throughout the day and come to your appointment feeling comfortable.
I also recommend having a small snack before coming in. Every sonographer is different, but I love it when your babies are moving around during their appointment because I know there is a higher chance I'll get the view I want for the perfect picture!
Wear something comfortable
Come as you are (especially at Olive + Bloom)! Comfortable clothing is always welcome.
We will need easy access to your belly for the ultrasound, so wearing something you can easily lift or adjust can make your appointment a little easier. Two-piece outfits, stretchy clothing, and comfortable materials are highly recommended!
Remember: baby is the boss
You can do everything ‘right.’ and your little one may still decide that today is the perfect day to snuggle with the placenta, cover their face with both their hands, or simply just to turn their back to us.
And that is okay!
Sometimes the sonographer is going to have to change your position, have you stretch, walk, drink some cold water, or give baby a couple of minutes to wake up. Baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid around baby’s face, and how cozy they are can all affect the images we are able to capture.
Do not stress about getting the ‘perfect’ picture
This might be the most important tip of all.
Every baby photographs differently during ultrasound. Some give us a full face right away, while others make us work a little harder for that sweet peek.
Your appointment is about so much more than getting one perfect picture. It is a chance to slow down, watch your baby move, see those tiny features, and enjoy extra time with the little person you have been waiting to meet.
This is exactly what Olive + Bloom was created for!
